AVG. Playtime: 30-45 min.

Welcome to "Secrets of Lionheart Penitentiary," a map prepared for the second DL2 contest in the Prison Heist category. You will definitely experience the atmosphere from the first installment, as I have recreated several locations from the original game, while also introducing many new ones according to my own project vision.

The events take place after Aiden and Hakon leave Villedor. In this project, I wanted to explore how a prison heist could be one stage of the adventure shared with Hakon in an alternate world.

Story:

We step into the shoes of Aiden, who, along with Hakon, has prepared a special infiltration operation into the correctional facility. After Hakon's initial drone reconnaissance, it is known that the facility has been taken over by renegades who are plotting something sinister. You find out that the prison is only the cover for something far worse... But are renegades the only ones involved? Definitely undeads. Will you be able to uncover the secrets of Lionheart Penitentiary and make it out alive?

Features:

  •  Three different character classes: Archer, Berserker, and Tank.

Depending on the chosen class, the gameplay style and progression through the level will vary. Each class has unique equipment, weapons, and abilities.

  1.  The Archer (bow, 1-handed, crossbow | knives) can access certain areas inaccessible to other classes. Can fight, can stealth, can enter vents to flank enemies/safety.
  2.  The Tank (2-handed weapons | mines, granades) class is about health, armor and health boosters, hard to die if you use them wiseley. Doesn't have many parkour moves.
  3.  The Berserker (1-handed weapons | C4, molotovs, boomstick) has all mele combat skills, damage boosters but lacks in health and armor. Designed to slash through enemies.

All mechanics will be thoroughly explained during the mission, so don't worry.

  • Warehouses: The level contains PK warehouses where you can find ammunition, medkits, and even skilled craftsmen.
  • Lockpicking: Each class starts with two lockpicks. They can be used to open weapon caches, warehouses and shortcut doors (a feature more suited for speedrunners). Lockpicks can also be found by exploring the map.
  • Melee combat, stealth, and multiple paths from point A to point B:

Depending on your chosen class, you can select the path that suits you best. For example, the Archer can choose a parkour route between walls, while the Tank and Berserker excel in direct combat. Of course, not only the Archer can occasionally bypass combat, but it will be easier for them.

  •  Story outline (to understand the purpose of infiltrating the prison)
  •  Drop differ for each class.
  •  Item upgrades are available.

Conclusion:

Overall, I aimed for more open locations where players can briefly admire the beauty of the prison. Classic encounters with renegades/infected and thrilling escape segments are not lacking.

That's all from me. I hope you enjoy it and will want to revisit this map again. :)

Frequently Asked Questions

Developer Tools

  • Why is Techland partnering with mod.io rather than using Steam Workshop?

mod.io is a cross-platform UGC solution, supporting 11 game systems and stores. We are launching with PC support, which includes our Steam and Epic Games playerbases. Console versions with in-game integration will follow in 2023, and partnering with mod.io ensures we can provide official mod support for all Dying Light 2 Stay Human players, regardless of platform or store preference.

  • On which platforms can I access the Developer Tools (custom map mods)?

Currently, PC platforms (Steam and Epic Games Store) have access to the Beta version of official mod support. All players can view submitted and approved custom maps from the main menu in game, via the Dying Light 2 - Developer Tool launcher, or directly by visiting mod.io/g/dying-light-2.

Meanwhile, Community Maps have been implemented into the game as a new feature on PC and consoles. Players can explore new worlds created by our community right now by accessing them via the game’s main menu.

  • What sort of mods can we expect to be available?

Developer Tools played a huge part in the community support and success of the original Dying Light. It’s for this reason, we engaged mod.io to bring this experience to all Dying Light 2 Stay Human players on both PC and consoles. From the release, our goal was to engage creators who want to revisit and make new custom maps. Whether narrative, co-op, or competitive, they all play a part in what our community loves about Dying Light. We are always open to exploring a wide range of mod categories, both cosmetic and gameplay-based, as requested by players.

  • Do I need a mod.io account in order to submit or play Custom Maps?

In order to submit your custom map for Dying Light 2 Stay Human, creators will be required to sign in to mod.io using the Developer Tools. Account creation allows creators and subscribers to add custom maps to their mod collection. The process is simple and requires email authentication for the user. Once a mod.io user account has been created, players can browse, rate, comment on, and subscribe to Developer Tools at mod.io/g/dying-light-2. Custom maps submission is available exclusively via the Map Editor program.

  • Will the experience differ for console players versus PC players?

Techland has partnered with mod.io to provide the same Community Maps experience for all the players. When it comes to Developer Tools, games are traditionally made using a PC, and in line with this approach, we have released a dedicated creation tool.

The Dying Light 2 Stay Human Dev Tools provide players on PC with our own toolset to create maps, stories and dialogues. These creations can then also be tested in the software before being uploaded to our game via mod.io.

  • What's new in Developer Tools?

We've added assets from the first Dying Light so that you can recreate the world of Harran in Dying Light 2 Stay Human. This package consists mainly of slums, small buildings, a hangar set, a railway set, and catwalks. Additionally, we’ve implemented new meshes from the world of Hellraid to open up the potential for more fantasy worlds and LOD’s for custom maps. We will continue to support Community Maps and Developer Tools for years to come!

  • Why aren't all the maps available on consoles?

Some maps are running into performance issues on certain platforms. Considering that Developer Tools are still in beta, certain optimization features may not be available at the moment. We are presently working to implement changes in 2024 that will allow players on platforms to experience some of the more elaborate creations of our community.

  • What is the difference between Developer Tools and Community Maps?

Developer Tools is what is used by our community to utilize our toolset, create their own games and upload them to Dying Light 2 Stay Human through mod.io. Community Maps is a new feature within the game that allows our playerbase to access and play those games.
